Speedy Move On Current Trends

THEY say that what goes around comes around, and nowhere could that be more accurate than in relation to the footwear craze currently sweeping the world - the old fashioned· desert boot.

We're not talking dowdy or boring here - more your bright colors, solid construction and quality materials, like the ones being produced under the Speedy Duck label by New Zealand manufacturer, McKinlays Shoes.

"We used to make these traditional desert boots about 30 years ago and the current craze is all about rediscovering that quality and originality but in a range of bright and striking colors," said Graeme McKinlay. "Just as in those early days, we again use an authentic crepe sole and quality suedes imported from Italy, in pastels and brights, including red, purple, yellow and green as well as black, sand and chocolate," The idea to resurrect the McKinlays desert boot was mooted with Australian supplier Simon de graaf, of Fearncove, who picked up on the early fashion buzz around Europe early last year.

"Graeme and I talked about the possibility of bringing out a range and were probably.a little bit early when we started showing.them around February this year. Now, however, they are everywhere.in all shapes and forms, but we think the authentic, locally made· collection by a company that is renowned for its stitch down construction, offers retailers a quality product at an affordable price,"said Simon.

So excited with the early response to the Speedy Duck desert boots are they that Simon and Graeme are already talking of exporting to Italy, and other. countries.

"With so much coming out of Asia these days, many customers .are looking for product that is different. in design and manufacture, and a Made in Australia or in this case, 'Made in New Zealand, carries a lot of kudos," said Simon.

McKinlays have re-released our version of a traditional desert boot. Our boot called Sahara features top quality Italian suede uppers & genuine crepe rubber soling & of course are made using our unique "veldschoen" stitchdown construction.
